Born in the U.K. MICHAEL DURHAM studied at Leeds College of Art. In 1970 he moved to London, Ontario, where he taught fine art at Fanshawe until his retirement in 2003. Michael's love of the unusual and exotic manifests itself in the large acrylic paintings with roughly worked surfaces. He often reworks his paintings or drawings over a period of many years. His use of repetition, bright colours and his depictions of animals, toys and figurines, show a fragility of the natural and human world as he conjures exotic lands and people that populate his imagination.
